# Sync Your Scope
RTOSafe pulls your scope of registration directly from training.gov.au. When TGA updates your scope, you can sync those changes into RTOSafe and review them before they're applied.

## How Syncing Works
Syncing is a two-step process:
1. **Compare** — RTOSafe fetches your current scope from TGA and compares it to what's in your system
2. **Review and approve** — You see exactly what will change before anything is updated
This gives you visibility over scope changes and creates an audit trail of who approved each sync.

## Start a Sync

Go to [**RTO Settings**](https://app.rtosafe.com.au/TgaSyncSettings) and select **TGA Scope Sync** from the sidebar

Click **Start New Sync**

Wait for the comparison to complete — this runs in the background and can take up to 15 minutes for large scopes. You can leave the page and come back later. The status will change to `Pending Review` when it's ready.

## Review and Apply Changes
Once the sync shows `Pending Review`, click **View** to see what's changed.
You'll see three sections:
* **Existing Scope Updates** — Items already in your scope with changed dates or status
* **New Scope Items** — Items that will be added to your scope
* **Missing from TGA** — Items in RTOSafe but not in TGA (these won't be removed — they're shown for your awareness)
When you're happy with the changes, click **Approve & Apply**. RTOSafe records who approved the sync and when.
If there are no changes, you'll see "Scope is in sync with TGA" and there's nothing to approve.

## What Happens Next
* New qualifications, skill sets, and units appear on your [**Scope**](https://app.rtosafe.com.au/Scope) page
* New parent items (qualifications and skill sets) are marked as needing delivery setup — see [Set Up Delivery](/help/delivery-streams)
* If TGA brought down skill sets you don't actually deliver, you can [mark them as not delivered](/help/delivery-streams#skill-sets-you-dont-deliver) so they stay out of your setup workflows and validation reports
* Existing items are updated with new dates or on/off scope status
* The sync history shows a complete audit trail of all syncs and approvals

## Common Issues
Sync stuck on "In Progress"
The comparison runs in the background. Refresh the page after a minute or two. If it's still stuck, contact support.
Sync expired before I could approve it
If you start a new sync before approving an existing one, the old sync expires. This prevents outdated changes from being applied. Just review and approve the latest sync instead.
Items showing as "Missing from TGA"
These are scope items in RTOSafe that weren't found in your TGA registration. RTOSafe won't remove them automatically — check if they should still be in your scope or if they were added manually.
